Diary entry by Danny W & Ed G from Team Mandela

"5 am wakeup call started the theme of a long day. An early shower was refreshing, but it did not prepare us for the journey. At 6 am we left for the safari. Nothing could prepare us for the cold journey ahead. We travelled in an open top safari car at 60 miles an hour, it was freezing!
We arrived 30mins later, the sun had risen, and on sight of a man with a shot gun we were ready for safari. The safari started with the sight of a pair of Rhinos in the distance, everyone had their cameras out, but there was more to come. Around the next corner we stumbled on several Giraffes accompanied by a family of zebra. Then our two cars split up. Our group seeing nothing and the other group seeing 2 white rhinos blocking the road. Then it came to breakfast. Egg, yoghurt and cereal bars. We then pushed on finding more animals and seeing vast views. Then we stumbled upon Izzie ( the cook ) who had prepared us all hot dogs on the BBQ. This was the best surprise so far .
The safari continued slowly as the animals were shading from the midday sun. The warm breeze and stunning views more than made up for this. However our luck soon changed when our driver spotted a ‘couple of elephants’ in the distance. As the driver took us closer we discovered more and more. The experienced driver pulled the convoy alongside a quiet river. When suddenly emerged a herd of over 20 thirsty elephants! A sight of bathing elephants is a sight we shall never forget ... the best surprise so far. This lasted for 20 minutes and exceeded any expectations of the safari. The day later ended with star gazing and a scorpion hunt, this was a great experience."
