Reggie's story of Isandlwana lives again ... hero's medal is sold by Grandson

A MEDAL given to one of only a handful of British soldiers to survive the Zulu massacre more than 130 years ago is set to fetch £15,000 at auction.
James Hamer, 20, came across thousands of Zulu warriors as they prepared to attack his Army camp on January 22, 1879 at Isandlwana in South Africa.

He rushed back to warn his comrades but most of the 1,200 troops were slaughtered as they fled, in a defeat which rocked the British Empire.

The Isandlwana massacre was followed by the heroic defence of Rorke’s Drift, immortalised in the 1964 Michael Caine film Zulu.
